Obituary for Stephen Francis Ondercin

Stephen Ondercin
It is with great sadness that the family of Stephen Francis Ondercin announce his sudden death on Sunday, July 20th at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital in his 89th year. Steve immigrated from Hrisovec Czechoslovakia at the age of 16 and from the moment he arrived in Canada he worked hard to learn the language and become successful. By 1967 Steve purchased his second Canadian Tire franchise and decided to make Collingwood a home for himself and his family. Steve was a proud man with a huge heart who enjoyed sharing his success with family and friends. Steve received as much enjoyment from helping others achieve their dreams as he did his own. Steve’s many kindnesses will long be remembered by his family and friends. Steve is predeceased by his wife Leona of 49 years, survived by his son Michael (Karrie) Ondercin of Waterloo. Loving father to Tim French (Josephine) and Brian French (Sandy) of Collingwood and his three grandchildren Carter Ondercin, Evan French and Haley French. He will be forever remembered by his brother John Ondercin of Collingwood, many nieces and nephews; extended family; friends and neighbours all of whom he cared for deeply including his beloved dog Benji. The family would like to invite you to remember Steve at a Celebration of Life on Thursday, August 7th from 1:00 to 4:00 with a time of reflection at 3 pm. To be held at 6 Hickory Street, Collingwood - casual outdoor setting. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to family, friends and neighbours who made Dad such a part of their lives after he lost his beloved Leona by visiting him, sharing a drink over stories or helping him with one of his many jobs around the house. Donations in Steve’s memory can be made to Veterans Canada.
