Obituary for Aldona Liegiene

Aldona Liegienė (née. Mykolaitytė) was born on January 24th, 1942. in the village of Kulautuva, near the City of Kaunas, Lithuania. She was the oldest of four children. Her siblings were brother Donatas and sisters Danutė and Nijolė. She is pre-deceased by her parents Juozapas and Veronika and sister Danutė.
Aldona began her primary studies at the school in Kulautuva and graduated in 1958. She studied at the National Pedagogical Institute at the University of Vilnius, Lithuania from 1959--1964. While there she completed a degree in mathematics and geometry. She began teaching in 1964 at the Vilnius Santariskiu Hospital for Sick Children. She was also a high school teacher at the 34th High School, 40th High School, and 15th High School in Vilnius. She was a highly sought-after teacher, which included specialized tutoring of students in her spare time. She left a long-lasting impression on many of her students over her 35 years of teaching. Many students and teachers still remember her today. She will be dearly missed by her good friends Vacys O., Nijolė V., Ona U. and Vilma B.
Aldona married her husband Ignas in 1964 and had two children Audronė and Simonas. Sadly, Ignas passed away suddenly in 1997. Aldona continued to teach and to live in Vilnius with son Simonas until her retirement.
After her retirement in 2001 she came to Canada to be with Audronė and her family. She occupied herself pursuing her passion for flower gardening and spending time with her grandchildren, Motiejus and Juozas and helping to look after her son-in-law’s brother Johnny.
Aldona became an active member of the Wasaga Beach Lithuanian Community. Aldona was a member of the Bočių Seniors Church Choir at the Lithuanian Church in Wasaga Beach. She further participated by reading regularly at Church Masses. Aldona was a kind and caring person who dedicated her life to family and others. After a lengthy illness she passed peacefully on the morning of April 28, 2020 at home in Canada in the presence of her family.
She is survived and deeply missed by her daughter Audronė (Ramunas) Lapavicius-Lapp and her son Simonas (Jurgita) Liegiene. She will be forever cherished by her grandsons Motiejus and Juozas. Aldona will also be remembered by Johnny Lapavicius-Lapp to whom she was like a mother.
As per her wishes cremation has taken place and her ashes will be interred in Lithuania. A private service of remembrance will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home officiated by Father Nerijus Smerauskas. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
