Obituary for Allen Porter

Allen Edward Porter August 25, 1932 - October 7, 2022.

Allen Edward Porter, born August 25, 1932, in Toronto Ontario, passed peacefully at Campbell House on October 7, 2022, surrounded by family.

Allen was predeceased by a younger brother, Bruce Porter, and son of the late Gladys and George Porter. Allen worked in the design office of Avro Canada on the Arrow, followed by the Detroit General Motors Design Office, and later attended Teacher’s College to become a high school teacher at Eastdale Secondary School.

Allen enjoyed all sports, and his passion for downhill skiing began at the early age of 11 as he boarded the Ski Train with his friends, heading for the Craigleith Depot and Blue Mountain.

Allen was married to Margaret Rose (nee Armstrong) in 1963 who he met at Dunn’s Pavilion in Bala, Ontario and later had three children, Michael Porter, Lorraine (Robert) Crossan, David (Alison) Porter, and seven grandchildren, Angus, Liam, Hillary, Arden, Rowan, Hannah, and Janelle.

Allen and Margaret settled and raised their family in Oshawa and would spend weekends and summers in Craigleith at the ski chalet that Allen designed and built on Sleepy Hollow Road in 1974. Friends, neighbours and family enjoyed gathering there for 30 years until 2004. Over the years Allen became very close with Margaret’s six siblings, Lois, David, Kathy, John, Christine, and Fred.

More recently they moved to their beautiful home at Sunset Point and enjoyed retirement there. Allen’s son David and his family built on the adjacent lot. The grandchildren loved to run back and forth for visits. Allen loved his wife Margaret, and his family and celebrated many family gatherings in the Collingwood area.

We would like to thank all the countless medical staff in and around Simcoe/Muskoka County, and the wonderful staff at Campbell House. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Hospice Georgian Triangle - Campbell House.

Please join the family to celebrate Allen's life on Sunday May 7, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. at the Bear Estate.
