Obituary for Anne Haworth

Anne Marie Haworth (nee. McCarron)
July 25, 1951 – July 19, 2022

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Annie, after an incredibly courageous, nearly 6 yearlong battle with ovarian cancer, which she fought with such strength and grace. Anne is the beloved wife of Michael. Incredible mother of Kyra (Les), Ian (Courtney), and Gregory. Loving sister to James (Barb), Mary Catherine (Al), Paul, Michael, Marguerite, and Theresa (Donnie). Adored aunt of Laura (Dre), Matthew (Ange), Sarah (Dave), David (Andrea), Kendra, and Jenna.

Born and raised in Toronto, Anne completed an English degree from York University and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Education. Teaching and inspiring youths was her passion, which she did at a number of elementary schools throughout Toronto, until finishing her career as head of the special education department at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton S.S. In retirement, after moving to Collingwood, her love of fashion led her to share her stylish hand at a ladies clothing store. Anne loved her family and friends more than anything. Even shopping, her favourite pastime. You would find her in the summer sunbathing at the cottage, with a glass of merlot and a good book. Her insatiable appetite for reading kept the local bookstore busy. With jujubes at hand, she adored cheering on the Leafs, a testament to her unwavering dedication to those she loved. Anne delighted in a good Scrabble game, where she would routinely ‘take you to school’. Her vibrant spirit led her on many adventures in life that were shared through tears of laughter and with that warm, embracing smile of hers that lit up a room.

Our family sincerely thanks Anne’s amazing caregivers, including Dr. Derzko, the gynecologic oncology team of Drs. Bouchard and Lheureux at Princess Margaret Hospital, Dr. Lewin, Saint Elizabeth homecare nurses, and Campbell House hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or Hospice Georgian Triangle in honour of Anne.

A celebration of life will be held at Fawcett Funeral Homes, 82 Pine St, Collingwood, ON on Thursday July 28 from 1-4pm. Until then, put on your favourite pair of shoes, pour a glass of wine and enjoy those memories of Annie.
