Obituary for Annie Dalziel

Annie (Nancy) Donald Dalziel (nee Stewart), a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully at age 96 in Collingwood General and Marine Hospital on Dec. 27, 2022.

Nancy is survived by her children James Dalziel (Barbara), Isabella Trevisan (Adrian) and Stewart Dalziel (Beverly); grandchildren Jeffrey Dalziel, Ryan Dalziel (Rachel), Marcus Trevisan, Erica Martin (Cameron), Lisa Dalziel, Steven Dalziel and Drew Dalziel; great-grandchildren Marcus Jr., Aria, Kaiden and Lucas; sister Isabella Leckie, brother Robert Stewart; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, John, in 1997; sisters Jeannie Cameron and Catherine Bell, brothers John, James, Andrew, Peter; and her parents, Isabella (Balmain) and Andrew.

Nancy and John Dalziel (pronounced Dee-ell) came to Canada from Glasgow, Scotland, in 1957 with their three young children. They settled in Georgetown, Ont., with John commuting to work in Malton as a machinist with Orenda Engines. He became a prominent union official. Nancy juggled homemaking and various jobs, including factory work. The Dalziels were active with the Sons of Scotland social group and made sure their children benefited from good schools and memorable vacations. Snowbird trips to Florida were a big deal, along with welcoming new Canadians from Scotland, with Nancy looking after accommodation, parties and dinners. Travel destinations also included Scotland and Australia. After the kids grew up, Nancy and John moved to St. Catharines in 1985. When John died in 1997, Nancy moved to Brampton to be closer to family members. And before moving to Collingwood in 2018, she lived in the Bramalea Retirement Residence, where her sociability paid dividends with many new friends. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Yixin Xie, Dr. Suhail Gandhi, Dr. Jeffrey Pereira, nurses at the Collingwood hospital, as well as the Victorian Order of Nurses, whose active day program was a big hit with Nancy. We also thank Danielle York and other staff at the Fawcett funeral home. A private family service in Brampton is planned for the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses of Canada.
