Obituary for Bill Palko

Bill Palko gently passed away in the early morning hours of October 22, 2022, at his home in Blue Mountains. Bill leaves behind his wife Jan, son Rob and his family in Taiwan (Jenny, daughters Rosy and Daisy); in Burlington - daughter Andrea Larocque (Michael and children Catherine and Cameron) and daughter Meghan Caibal (Rommel and children Ella and Grace).

Bill was born in Niagara Falls on February 22, 1946, to Rose (Orban) and Frank Palko. He leaves behind his sister Edna Cook and her family in Niagara Falls and his brother Larry Palko and his family in Burlington.

Bill's working career was in the commercial acoustical and drywall industry in Toronto and the Kitchener-Waterloo area. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf - he used to laugh at "men chasing a small white ball around" and then discovered how enjoyable it was to be on the course with like-minded men for fun and fellowship. He puttered around the house and turned his hand to many projects that completed the peaceful home that he and Jan enjoyed. He was always willing to lend a hand - or an ear. He gave sage advice sprinkled with humour. Most afternoons Jan and Bill could be found in Thornbury sitting with a coffee on a bench in Bayview Park.

Family was Bill’s #1 priority. He was an involved and caring father who supported his children in all their endeavours. He was happy to see his children married and raising the next generation. He loved being a grandfather. All family gatherings were filled with humour and warmth.

Bill was an amazing life partner. Bill and Jan were high school sweethearts and shared 60 years of memories (54 of them as husband and wife). He was loving, patient, wise, humourous, caring, and supportive. He encouraged Jan in all her educational pursuits - always waiting for her to come back home with more ideas and ideals. He is once again waiting for her for their final journey together.

Bill has been cremated and will forever be in our hearts and memories.

There will be a celebration of life in the summer of 2023 when all of Bill's family can be together in Craigleith.

If you so desire donations in his name can be made to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital or Hospice Georgian Triangle - Campbell House in Collingwood. The family thanks the many health care professionals who helped. Bill over the past 8 months.
