Obituary for David Christie

DAVID ALAN CECIL CHRISTIE
1935-2022

We are sad to announce that David died unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday August 14 at his home in Rob Roy, Ontario. David was the son of the late Mabel (Smart) and Alwyn Christie. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 66 years, Katie (Bell), his children, Stephen (Jennifer Huycke), Cathy, Liz and Trish (Dan More), his grandchildren, Maggie, Tessa and William Christie, Thomas and Hattie More, his brother, George, and sister-in-law, Fran. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward, sister-in-law, Diane and his best canine friend, Rusty.

David and Katie were inseparable. They travelled the world together, to Rotary conventions in North America and overseas, and from one side of Canada to the other, often sleeping in the back of their pick-up truck. For many years, they hosted exchange students and Rotarians from around the world at their home. Most became life-long friends.

David (Mountain to his friends) lived a full, varied and active life. He was a founder of the Collingwood Ski Club, long-time Rotarian (Collingwood and Gore Bay), Rotary Team Leader to Nigeria (1988), District 7010 Governor (1993-1994), recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow and recent inductee into the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame.

He was a welcoming friend to many and will forever remain an inspiration to his children and grandchildren.

A service will be held Monday August 22 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United, Collingwood with reception to follow at the Log Cabin in Rob Roy.
