Obituary for Day Gowing
It's with great sadness the family announce the sudden passing of Day Gowing on Friday January 13, 2023 at the age of 85. Day, beloved wife of 65 years to John. Cherished mother of Stephanie (Christiane). Loving sister of Drew (Peggy) Martin. Will be sadly missed also by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by parents Ross and Gerry Martin and her brother Stephen.
Day was born in St. Catharine's but grew up in Cambridge (Galt). In supporting John's career in education she lived in several locations across Southern Ontario i.e. Port Colborne, Niagara Falls, Cobourg and London. As a result, it was not surprising for her and John to retire in the small, friendly town of Collingwood. Day enjoyed her sports, especially golf, curling and tennis. She could also usually be found reading a good book, playing bridge, helping make sandwiches at First Presbyterian Church where she regularly attended, playing with her grand dog or just simply enjoying her gardens and flowers in her home.
The family is deeply saddened at this time but find great comfort in the sure and certain promise that she is resting safely in the arms of our Lord.
Friends are invited to join the family in Celebrating Day's Life on Wednesday January 18 from 2-4 in the afternoon at Fawcett Funeral Homes, Collingwood Chapel, 82 Pine Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation in Mrs. Gowing's memory.
