Obituary for Eldon Bell

On Saturday, May 22, 2021, Eldon Wright Bell peacefully passed away at the home of Denis and Lynda in
Collingwood. Eldon was predeceased by his wife Audrey (Reinhart) Bell on August 30, 2020. Dad is now with the love of his life celebrating their 74th Wedding Anniversary together on Monday, May 24th.

Eldon was a proud and devoted father to Denis (Lynda), Brian (Lori), Cindy (Roy) Gabriel and Sara (Tim) den Bok. He was the best Grampa/Papa to Nicole (Mark), Jordan (Teralyn), Natalie, Jessica (Pedro), Kourtney (Landon), Megan (Daxton), Katie (Simon), Hannah (Dustin), Leah (Alejandro) and Daniel and the greatest great Papa to Kyanna, Kyle, Triston, Ava, Alyssa, Brayden, Michael, Zion, Noah and Vida.

Eldon was the third child of Ernest and Margaret (Draper) Bell, born September 17, 1925, at the home farm located on the Nottawasaga Township 2nd Line halfway between Stayner and Cashtown Corners. Predeceased by his brother Cecil (Sylvia) and sisters Gladys (Wilfred) Atkinson and Doreen Eckstein. He is survived by his sister Joyce (Morris) Ackerman and brother-in-law Waldron Eckstein, along with ten nieces and nephews and their families.

Eldon grew up farming and even though he became a “Stayner boy”, farming was still in his blood as he enjoyed helping his grandson Jordan with both the sheep and cows.

Eldon began his working life as a farmer and truck driver. He was invited by his father-in-law to join him at the Reinhart Cider and Vinegar mill in Stayner in 1948 where he mastered the art and science of vinegar making. In 1967, Eldon became the Vice President of the company. As a person of leadership and with a passion for learning, Eldon certified as an electrician to understand and lead the factory to operate in an efficient way. Eldon’s onsite leadership made possible the physical expansion of the factory. This included rebuilding the plant, after the devastating fire of July 26, 1979. The new plant was opened in May 1980.

Eldon was very involved with the Stayner Evangelical Missionary Church as Sunday School superintendent, bus driver, deacon, handyman and board member. Eldon’s intention always was to honour God as best he could as he loved, worked and lived his life.

Eldon was involved as a politician from the mid 1970’s. He was elected as a Councillor for the Town of Stayner, eventually becoming the Reeve of the Town and then the Warden of Simcoe County in 1987.

Eldon and Audrey spent many years travelling all over the world, often accompanied and always enjoyed with good friends and family. From 1975 to 2017, Mom and Dad went on at least 106 trips.

While Dad will be missed incredibly, we all have such wonderful memories to hold him close to our hearts.
Our best intention is to host a memorial service at the Stayner church when our Covid world permits. We will send this information to all family and friends when the date is finalized. Eldon and Audrey’s ashes will be interred at the Stayner Union Cemetery after the memorial service.
