Obituary for Eleanor Harris

Eleanor Mary Harris
(nee Copeman)
February 25, 1929-October 1, 2022

Eleanor died peacefully surrounded by family at home in Collingwood at the age of 93. Born in Quebec City to parents Elsie and Joseph Copeman, eldest sibling to Joseph, Nancy, Margaret, Barbara, and Robert. Loving wife of 46 years to Edward Alfred Harris. Cherished mother of Susan Turner and Margie Hewitt (Steve). Precious grandmother of James (Amber), Sarah, (Noyan), Thomas, Andrew, Shannon, and Marianne. Adoring great grandmother of Hannah, Jamie, and Eddie. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Eleanor devoted her career to teaching and fine arts, obtaining her M.A. in Fine Art from Notre Dame University while living and teaching in New York. She retired from a very satisfying career as an Art Consultant with the Metro Separate School Board, Toronto.

After her travels around the world, on a ski trip in Quebec, Eleanor met Ed, the love of her life, marrying within six months. Throughout their marriage, she enjoyed dancing, theatre, curling, summers together at the cottage, and wintering in Florida at Timber Pines. Other passions included, skiing, golfing, gardening, photography, singing, and art.

The artist in Eleanor was apparent in all aspects of her life, bringing beauty to everything and everyone she touched.

Sincere gratitude is extended to all the medical staff and PSW’s who have supported Eleanor throughout her final years, with special mention to Dr. Cornell, Andrea, and Annie.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Covenant House Toronto or the Collingwood General Marine Hospital.
