SPROULE, FREDERICK DOUGLAS of Collingwood, Ontario passed away at the Georgian Triangle Hospice Campbell House in Collingwood October 24th after a hard-fought battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Allen) for 54 years, as well a proud and loving father of Michael, Stephen, Christopher (Deborah Regier), Bradley (Piper Kerr), and Paul. Fred will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Nicholas, Olivia, Emmett, Michaela, Payton, Paige, Rebecca, Ava-Lynn, Lincon, Max, and Tatum. Fred was born June 6 1945 at the Collingwood General Marine Hospital and raised in Collingwood, he was the loving son of Josephine (Hamilton) (deceased) and Claire Sproule (deceased). Fred will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his sisters Joanne (Sandy) Cunningham, Patricia (Don) Valley, and brother Claire (Cathy) Sproule. Fred will be sadly missed by his Aunt Joan Dynes (Hamilton).

Fred graduated from Collingwood Collegiate Highschool, then went on to postsecondary education at the University of Waterloo in 1963 to study mathematics and engineering. He secured a teaching position at the high school in Sault Ste Marie. Two years later he made his way back to his hometown and took a job at Collingwood Collegiate Institute teaching mathematics. Fred quickly became a strong fixture at CCI leading many things namely the creator and chair of the CCI Reunion, Fastmatics, founded and operated the CCI Elective Ski Club, coached Cross Country Skiing and Volleyball. Fred was integral in bringing Night School to Collingwood and was appointed Night School Principal.

Fred loved his hometown Collingwood, he gave back to his community, one of his main tasks was combining his teaching and love of carpentry, he led 10 builds for Habitat for Humanity. Other ways Fred gave back to the community was: Warden Anglican Church, Worshipable Master Masonic Lodge, United Way, Mayors Advisory Committee, Parks and Rec committee, Heritage Drive committee, Co-chair Station Replication committee, Winterfest/Summerfest committee, and countless hours of other volunteer work. Fred was awarded the Order of Collingwood, and then received the Companion of the Order.

After retiring from CCI Fred continued his passion of carpentry and built houses, decks and finished basements.

Fred loved skiing, golf, was a member of the Collingwood Bills Slo-pitch team, and the CCI Teachers hockey teams. He could always be found at the local rinks/fields supporting his sons and grandchildren in their activities.

Fred enjoyed many vacations with wife Doris, family and friends to Europe, Florida, South America, and the cottage in the Kawartha’s, these made for lasting memories.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Fred’s name to Hospice Georgian Triangle - Campbell House or the General Marine Hospital.

My Dad was an amazing person and we miss him so much. He provided so much greatness to his family, friends and so many others. He worked so hard to provide the best life for his family. He was a great friend to so many great people. He donated so much of his time as a volunteer and charity work to provide for so many strangers in need. He cared and wanted to help so many people. The town of Collingwood has lost a great one! The best Man I have ever known! Rest In Peace Dad.

Doris, Michael, Stephen, Chris, Brad, Paul and families. I wanted so many times to leave a memory of Fred, but found it very hard to do. Mum and I want you to know, we thought so much of Fred, he was a like a son/brother and much more. He helped Mum and Dad, Mum in later years, Janice with so many things, myself when I moved home, little phone calls to tell me what maybe I should do in different things; the list goes on and on. Fred was a wonderful man, and beautifully expressed by everyone at his service. May the memories that surround you in your hearts and minds keep you forever warm and loved. Aunt Joan and Marianne .... xxoo
