Obituary for Greta McGillivray

Greta Ada McGillivray (nee Jepson), born July 16, 1929, died Sept. 25, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by family. Greta was a passionate environmentalist, champion skier, devoted mother and inspirational community leader, she cofounded the Blue Mountain Arts Council, Theatre Collingwood, the Nature League, and the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust. Member of the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame, Companion to the Order of Collingwood, Latornell Conservationist Award recipient, and Niagara Escarpment Commissioner.  Predeceased by her daughters Elizabeth and Jocelyn, Greta is survived by her brother Kim Jebson, her children Andrew, Johanne, Jane, Alison and James, seven grand children and twelve great-grandchildren.  She leaves us all to embrace and embody the challenge of serving and preserving this miraculous, fragile, interdependent planet Earth and to do so with an open heart. As her daughter Jocelyn wrote, Greta was truly "the brightest pearl from the deepest ocean" We thank her for the gifts she brought to our lives. 
Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am. on Saturday October 1, at All Saint’s Anglican Church in Collingwood.  All welcome. Donations may be directed to the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust in Greta’s memory.
