Obituary for Harold Zukerman

Harold Zukerman passed away on September 19, 2022 at the age of 96, in the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (“CGMH”), Collingwood, Ontario. In the last few months, Harold courageously battled with health issues that eventually led to heart failure.

Harold was predeceased by his loving wife Joyce Zukerman. He is remembered by his children, Jane Zukerman-Shepherd and Robert Zukerman-Shepherd, and by Joyce’s children, Madelaine Kilsby (Wayne), and John McCaffrey (Nora). Harold adored and was proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He leaves behind Jacqueline Shepherd Guttman, and Joyce’s grandchildren, Jacqueline Stadler (Andrew), Jason Elliott (Kerri), Elijah McCaffrey (Natasha Inwood), Luke McCaffrey (Charlotte Martin), and Ariel Nadler, Joyce’s great-grandchildren, Brianne, Braden, Logan and Landon Elliott, Kiera and Claire McCaffrey, and Franc and Matthew Stadler, and Joyce’s great-great-granddaughter Everly Grace Elliott. Harold was loved and respected by his family, extended family and Collingwood residents.

Prior to COVID, Harold led a life of volunteering, including reading to children in public school, giving Chair Yoga and other exercise classes at the Collingwood YMCA, providing solace and humour to patients at both the CGMH and the Bay Haven Care Community.

Harold received many awards in his life, but treasured most his Order of Collingwood and Companion to the Order of Collingwood received for volunteerism. We all knew Harold as a warm, compassionate and loving person who loved to learn and to teach, with a tremendous sense of humour.

We invite you to join us in the Celebration of Harold’s Life on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., in the Normandy Room, Royal Canadian Legion, 490 Ontario Street, Collingwood, Ontario. The service will be available by livestream Service Livestream
