Obituary for Hilde Schweishelm
Schweishelm, (nee Philipps), Hilde
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Hilde Schweishelm on Sunday, December 27, 2020 in her 92nd year. Hilde left Germany in 1956, travelling by ship to Canada, following the dreams of her husband Karl. Settling originally in Toronto, they eventually moved to a farm in beautiful Lavender. Her flower beds were breathtaking and her huge vegetable garden envied by many. She was growing kale before kale was cool! She loved baking and her cakes were extraordinary creations, full of butter and sugar, made from her mother’s recipes. After Karl’s passing, she moved into Collingwood, where she rode her bicycle into her 70’s and shovelled snow and cut grass well into her 80’s. In her younger days she loved high heels and dresses, and always enjoyed a good party.
She will be forever cherished by her children Karl (Marie), Robert, and Angie (Matt) and will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Kate (Björn) and Nadine (Danny). Spring interment at the Lavender Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in Hilde’s memory can be made to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.
