Obituary for James "Jimmy" Jones

JAMES LLEWELLYN JONES
October 19, 1942 — February 14, 2023

Jimmy died peacefully at Creedan Valley Care Community in Creemore after a medically troubled few years. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and L. E. (Ted) Jones. He is mourned and remembered by his brother, Bill, and Bill’s family, Halla, Megan and Katherine.

Jimmy lived a full life on his own terms, resolutely independent, with many interwoven careers—inventor, musician, and master of mechanical, electrical and electronic matters. He developed a clever way to improve the performance of internal combustion engines. He was trained as a choral singer, and played bass in many bands, including Luke & the Apostles, the Artists’ Jazz Band, and Kid Bastien’s various traditional New Orleans jazz bands. He was hands-on like his grandfathers; he understood gear and gadgets, and could build and fix most anything.

But Jimmy was also a people person like his dad. Boy did he ever love telling his many stories to anyone and everyone. A number of the many friends and neighbours he gathered through his life were supportive in the last few years of his life; thanks to each and every one of you. Thanks also to the staff at Creedan Valley, Royal Victoria, Busby Centre, Barrie Manor, Stevenson Memorial, and Collingwood G & M Hospital for their care when he was with them. Finally, special thanks are due to Lyn and Maggie who got him into his beloved cabin in the woods north of Alliston, and back out when required.

Jimmy will be cremated through the auspices of Fawcett Funeral Homes in Creemore. He will be interred with his parents in the cemetery of St. George’s on-the-Hill in Etobicoke later, with a Celebration of Life at that time. Remember Jimmy by supporting live music that you love, and young people that you know as they get started in life.
