Obituary for Jean Vickers

Jean A. Vickers 1936-2020

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Vickers in Collingwood, ON. Jean had struggled with COPD for years, and on Thursday June 4, 2020, she (and her heart) had had enough. She passed quickly and peacefully without any discomfort. She was 83 years old.

Born in Montreal, to Isobel & Ed on July 15, 1936, Jean was the second eldest of six children. As a girl, she took care of her younger siblings, taught Sunday School, and then moved to Toronto at a young age to start her adult life.

Jean’s life reads like a novel. A novel, we would all love to live. She had many careers from working for the US Travel Service, to corporate life at American Express, to selling real estate. Jean was an avid skier and some of her oldest friends and best memories were made at ski resorts all over the world. For seven years she lived in Spain where she loved her days filled with tennis, golf, and spending Sunday mornings on the beach with friends drinking brandy.

She returned to Canada and chose Collingwood as her home. She volunteered her time at hospice, exercised at the Y, played golf, went to meditation classes, studied Buddhism, hosted dinner parties, and held court at the B&B.

Jean was an extraordinary woman. Those who knew her were all entranced with her vim for life… she lived her life to the fullest, and on her terms.

Jean’s greatest joy was her family. Her son Doug, her daughter Kira and her three grandchildren. “Grannie” is beloved by Thomas (25), Jake (21), and Olivia (18).

Jean will be fondly remembered by her family and many, many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future.
