Obituary for John Markovich

John Thomas Markovich
Born May 1, 1933, Timmins ON - March 1, 2022, Collingwood ON

It is with sadness our family announces the passing of our beloved father after a brief illness.

John is survived by his wife Joan of 58 years and his sons Rudi and Marty.

John is the oldest of four siblings. Sisters Kay Downey / Ron Downey, Vanna Haynes / Keith Haynes, and his brother Charles "Butch" Markovich / Barbara Markovich.

John lived in Oshawa and Don Mills before coming to Collingwood with his family in 1973 to open John's Car Wash.

John loved Collingwood. He helped the community to grow through fundraising and being part of many organizations. He became president of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Big Brothers. He also served a term on town council. He received the Order of Collingwood and was inducted into the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame under the category championship teams.

The town of Collingwood was a big part of John's life for many years. The many friendships. He truly enjoyed greeting customers and promoting his business while helping others.

John was a respectful, decent man in every way. He loved his family dearly.

Generations of good people worked at the location with John. There are many memories to be had. Including the glitzy Car Wash conventions in Las Vegas. ;)

John's memory will live on with family and friends. He touched many lives in the community.

John's wishes were to be cremated with a private family ceremony.

Please consider a donation to the G&M hospital or Campbell House Hospice. Great teams helping families.
