Obituary for Karen Rawlings

Karen Anne Rawlings born April 8, 1948 in Hamilton deceased April 22, 2021 at Orillia Soldiers Memorial hospital of Covid 19. Survived by her husband Peter de Vries, brothers Ken Stevenson and his wife Wendy and Alan Stevenson and his wife Lynn, nephews Rob (Isabel) and Adam great aunt of James, Carissa, Megan and Kyler. Predeceased by her parents Donald and Irene Stevenson. A kind, gentle, compassionate person with a quick radiant smile she was a teacher in Collingwood for many years. After retirement she dedicated some years of her life assisting her parents in their later years. Traveling was a passion and she enjoyed many cruises to different parts of the world. She never forgot a special day in friends and family's life always writing a card or preparing small gift bags. She possessed a natural ability for decorating and was sometimes called "ditch witch" for her ability to collect wildflowers along the road and create beautiful wall hangings. Always organized, her kitchen contained containers of many shapes and sizes to store things. In the last few years she enjoyed doing 1000 piece puzzles almost all with pictures of cats or dogs. She enjoyed boating on Georgian Bay and in the last 2 years she used her considerable organization skills to equip our small travel trailer she affectionately called our "tiny house". We want to thank the staff and nurses at Collingwood Marine Hospital and Orillia Soldiers memorial hospital for their kind, companionate and caring performance of their job. They truly are heroes. The world has lost a beautiful soul.
As an expression of sympathy donations in Karen's memory may be made to Rainbows Canada or the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.
