Obituary for Kirk MacKenzie

Kirk Bruce MacKenzie
(Affectionately known as “Bus”)

June 15, 1955 - January 02, 2022

Our world has so sadly been forever changed by the very sudden and tragic loss of our Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, dear friend of so many, neighbourhood informant and historian who knew all there was to know, family mechanic who was frequently called upon to fix our many noises and malfunctions in our vehicles or to repair miniature dollhouse furniture after it had a go-around with the grandchildren at Great Grandma MacK’s, a purveyor of the perfect meal on “Chicken Tuesday “ where only part of the meal actually made it out of the store before it had been “assessed by his friends at the local pharmacy for healthy fat content and tastiness”, or the most economical burger joint in town, a regular parishioner of the ”Sunday church of Stayner” (really just the best darn western omelette and conversation with friends around and the excuse he used when asked by his family where he was going every Sunday morning), a high roller of style and fashion from the well renowned designers of TSC or Mark’s Work Wearhouse, where the highly sought after orange construction jacket and Ford suspenders were all the rage.

But most of all, one of the nicest, most kind -hearted, giving people who wouldn’t hesitate to lend a helping hand if needed, volunteer his time at the local Stayner food bank, help to restore the history of the baseball era in Nottawa, or give back to the community in many ways through the local Manitou Masonic Lodge in Collingwood, or just to enjoy a big, rolling belly laugh with friends during his many travels.

Kirk was predeceased by his father Laurrie, his mother Shirlea, and his nephew Matthew. Loving Father to Corinne and Derek, brother to Kim and wife Penni, Walter and Mark and wife Lynda. Affectionately known as “Bus” by the grandchildren he loved SO dearly and that were the light of his life and always the topic of every conversation, Ethan, Arica, Jakob, Juliette, and Alice.
Loving uncle to Kirsten, Kailum, Dennis, and Sarah.

Forever to be missed by his many cousins and extended family and friends all over the world.

Wherever Kirk went in life, he made an impression and impact on those around him. He will always be remembered by his many quirky sayings and his love of his family.

One of his favourite sayings to express his love to his family was “how can I miss you if you won’t go away?”

A private family gathering will take place to honour and remember Kirk at 1p.m. on Saturday January 22, 2022, at Fawcett Funeral Home in Collingwood. Please join the family by livestream via the link under the Photos & Videos Tab.

A Celebration of Life and “all things Kirk” will be held in the summer when we can hopefully all gather safely and in person.

In lieu of flowers donations to the RVH Cancer Centre or the Stayner Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.

You never said I'm leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it and only God knew why. A million times we needed you, a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place
that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you the day God took you home. Author Unknown.
