Obituary for Lisbet Gorrie

LISBET Gorrie (nee Svendsen) June 2, 1938 Copenhagen, Denmark – October 24, 2022 Collingwood, Ontario.

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lisbet Gorrie (nee Svendsen) on Monday October 24, 2022, in her 84th year.

Born June 2, 1938, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Lisbet and her parents, Kai and Gerda (Christoffersen) Svendsen emigrated to Canada when Lisbet was in her mid-teens, and she quickly became immersed in her new life.

Graduating from North Toronto Collegiate Institute and then Ontario College of Art & Design, Lisbet began a long, industrious, and successful career as an interior designer working for several large Commercial Design firms in the City of Toronto.

With a keen desire to live her life to the fullest, Lisbet loved to travel visiting many destinations throughout Europe and North America. Following her marriage to George Gorrie in 1972 she enjoyed weekends skiing at Osler Bluff Ski Club with family and friends and ski adventures in the Rocky Mountains and the Alps. She became an avid golfer, playing at Mad River Golf Club, Blue Mountain Golf Club and on various golf holidays.

In the early 1990’s, Lisbet retired to Collingwood and following her love of the arts, became involved in the Blue Mountain Foundation of the Arts, supporting local visual artists; a member of the local Probus Club and cherished her time with family and friends and Golden Retrievers Clipper, Cody, and Rory.

After the death of George Gorrie, Lisbet remarried to Carl Wiuff, moved to Windsor, California, enjoying several years of the California warmth and returning to Collingwood in 2020 after Carl’s death.

Lisbet is survived by her beloved daughter Ingrid Watt, adored grandchildren Lindsay and Jennifer, extended family (Gorrie and Worrall) and a wide circle of friends in Collingwood, California and throughout Ontario.

She was predeceased by her husband George Gorrie (2012) and Carl Wiuff (2019), and her son in-law Andrew Watt (2019).
The family wish to thank the incredible staff at Right at Home Georgian Triangle and Comfort Keepers for the extra care and support provided over the past year. At Lisbet’s request cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday December 7 at 2pm at Fawcett Funeral Home in Collingwood, Ontario with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lisbet’s memory may be made to Collingwood Marine and General Hospital at cgmhf.com, Georgian Triangle Humane Society at gths.ca or a charity of your choosing.
