Obituary for Lorraine Fox

The Fox family is saddened to announce the passing of Lorraine Mary Fox on Tuesday March 19, 2019. Lorraine died peacefully in her 89th year
at Balmoral in Collingwood, where she was respectfully cared for, and made all the staff laugh.

Lorraine will be greatly missed by her husband of 63 years, Tom, and by her children Paul (Darlene), Laura (Joey Gdanski), Nancy (Tony Ciccocioppo) and grandchildren Tina (James Stacey), Tara (Gregory Reid), Gavin, and Elloitt (Erin Smith). Lorraine was also a friend of Bill W.

Lorraine was born at home in Renfrew, ON on August 24, 1930 in the height of the great depression, but in light of this, achieved the highest marks in school, and was named valedictorian in her graduating year at her high school. She went on to graduate with her RN, after attending various hospitals in the Ottawa area for training.

Her summers were spent at the cottage at Catchacomma Narrows with her family, swimming, boating, fishing, making blueberry pies on rainy days, and enjoying the wonderful sunsets.

Winters were very special, as one of the “racing wives” of Craigleith Ski Club, Lorraine could be seen, folding bibs, recording times, tabulating race results, and enjoying the après-ski socials that made the club an intragal part of her life. She also hosted the famous “hat parties” at the family chalet, which were the talk of the club.

Lorraine, along with Tom, was an accomplished world traveler, with stops in Europe, South America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, South Africa, India and Asia. As far as transportation is concerned, Lorraine rode an ostrich in South Africa and an elephant in India.

For those who had the pleasure of her company, they were all impressed by her unbelievable courage and gumption, and were enlightened by her intelligence, razor sharp wit, elephant like memory, and were enriched with her no nonsense forthright opinions. Never a boring moment, and so much fun to be around!

Her cremation has taken place, and there will be a private family service later in the year. In lieu of flowers you may donate in memory of Lorraine to Hospice Georgian Triangle or the Salvation Army Collingwood.
