Obituary for Lynne Suljic
It’s with great sorrow, we share with you the passing of Lynne Anne Suljic. She passed away peacefully at home, in her bed on Monday, March 7, 2022.
Lynne will be greatly missed by her loving husband Robert Brian Austin, with whom she shared over two decades.
During that time, Lynne’s one true wish was to be “Mrs. Lynne Austin”, so after 21 years of blissful cohabitation, they were married in their Wasaga home on January 15th of this year. Lynne couldn't have been happier on that day and each day forward, as she presented her wedding ring to everyone that visited.
She is survived by her two children; Tanya (Scott), and Ivan (Rachel), and her four grandchildren; Annaliese, Gabriel, Benjamin and General.
Mother Theresa once said “Peace begins with a smile”. All those who were lucky enough to know Lynne, remember her for her smile, laughter and outrageous sense of humour.
She loved others, and use that smile and sense of humour to put everyone at ease, making it easy for everyone to love her.
Lynne put everyone before herself, whether it was easy or difficult to love them. She was always there, at whatever the cost to her self, when somebody needed to be loved, listen to, respected or heard.
Lynne was cherished by those who knew her well. I even suspect she was cherished by those who didn't know know her at all, but were offered, for no reason other than being themselves, a loving smile on a bad day.
“Peace begins with a smile”. Lynne spread peace every day, regardless of how she may have been feeling. No matter who she saw, she saw someone deserving of love.
Lynne was born June 21, 1949 as Lynne Fay in upstate New York. She attended University in New York City to study nursing but withdrew when she found herself too overwhelmed when losing a patient.
Changing her studies to business, she graduated and entered the business world as an executive secretary.
She would often regale us with stories of what it was like to grow up in New York during the late 60s and 70. Dancing until very late at night, in the night clubs. And the celebrities, in the night an clubs, on the street, even one time in an elevator. Sydney Poitier, Dustin Hoffman, Walter Cronkite, to name a few.
Eventually Lynne moved up to the Toronto area and became a homemaker and a mother to her two children.
Being someone that made you feel so welcome, she was particularly wonderful with children. This made her house, the house in the neighbourhood where all the children would gather.
When her children got older Lynne started working as a waitress. Like everything else she did, she did it with enthusiastic exuberance making her the most pleasant and exceptional server you'd ever have met.
Being someone who wanted nothing more than to please others, it made her very happy to be a server.
Wanting a new start, Lynne left Toronto and moved up to the Collingwood area and began a job with the Georgian Manor as a server. She would often come to the aid of a new mother with a fussy child, taking the newborn in her arms as she went around the dining room taking dinner orders.
Others dining were delighted when Lynne coming to their table with a young baby, all while soothing the child and allowing the mother to enjoy her dinner.
Deciding to retire, Lynne and Robert became Snowbirds, but after many years found she wasn't ready for retirement and took a job with Raglan Village as a server. She soon found herself the chief server in charge of the dining room.
Working at a retirement home, was where she really excelled.
Being able to give comfort to those in the winter of their life, gave Lynne immense pleasure. Using that disarming smile and sharp wit, she could win over the most objective and became well loved by all.
Lynne received many cards, letters and gifts from the residence and their children.
What a wonderful woman, that lived a wonderful life, Loved by all. Lynne, you well be forever remembered, but so sadly missed.
