Obituary for Margaret Hughes

Hughes, Margaret Alice (Wood), age 104, formally of Wasaga Beach, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2021 at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood.
Margaret surely lived a full and healthy life, spending much of her time at her favourite cottage, which eventually became her home, in Wasaga Beach.
She loved her job at the YMCA in Toronto spending 25 years there before retiring to Wasaga Beach. Born in Creemore on Mary Street she shared early memories of her time serving ice cream in the store owned by her father. The Wood family owned the family cottage in Wasaga Beach since 1928 and Margaret shared wonderful times of family gatherings at Beach 3, dancing at the Dardanella Night Club, and walking the local beaches.
Preceded in death by her parents Henry Charles “Harry” Wood and Edith Lyle Boyd Wood, her brother Frederick “Boyd” Wood, and her husband David Hughes.
Margaret & David met in Toronto and knew each other for several years before getting married in 1971 when she was 54 years of age, and retiring to live together happily in Wasaga Beach.
Later in life Margaret spent many winters in Port Charlotte, Florida and enjoyed embroidery to help pass the time.
Margaret was lucky enough to meet Howard Noble (Founder, Noble Insurance) and Howard became her lifelong “gentleman friend” (how Margaret introduced him!) and true soulmate until Howard’s passing in 2011. They made a great team, particularly when playing their favourite card game Bid Euchre, and seeing the world on several cruises they shared together.
She was known to like a drop of Crown Royal whiskey and ginger ale from time to time, as well as her favourite After Eight mints.
Margaret found spiritual friendship in her long association with the Presbyterian Community Church in Wasaga Beach.
Home for Margaret for the last 11 years was Raglan Retirement Village in Collingwood where she was admired and pampered by staff throughout her stay.
In her final days Margaret was treated with kindness and very special care at Hospice Georgian Triangle Campbell House.
