Obituary for Norman Mills

Norman Henry Mills, born April 7, 1946, passed away peacefully July 25, 2022 in his 77th year at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. Norm will be dearly missed by his wife Nicole. He was the loving and devoted father of Derrick (Jeanie), Keith (predeceased in 1996), and Ernie (Katie). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Billie Jo (James), James, Stacey, and great-grandchildren Jessie, Lex, Lizzy, and Mathias. Norm is predeceased by his sister Joan (the late Jim) Vrooman, and will be forever remembered by his sister Dorothy (Gordon) Currie. He was the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Norm was born in Shelburne to loving parents Les and Reta Mills. He began working at Goodyear in Collingwood when he was 21, and was a devoted employee there for almost 40 years. He also worked for Ace Cabs, and could always be seen driving around town every Friday and Saturday night. When he retired in 2021, he was the longest-serving employee of Ace Cabs. Norm married the love of his life, Nicole, in July 1983, and in December that year they moved to their farm in Stayner to pursue his love of hobby farming. The farm also gave him room for his antique cars, and to hunt. Norm was very sociable, and always enjoyed a good cup of coffee with friends and family. He was a very sweet man with a great sense of humour, who would go out of his way to help anyone.

Family and friends will be received at Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood Chapel on Tuesday August 2, 2022, from 11 a.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 12 p.m. Interment and reception to follow in Maxwell. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Norm may be made to a charity of choice.
