Obituary for Ovas Wagg

Dr. H. Ovas Wagg passed away quickly at his home in Collingwood, ON on the evening of Wednesday February 16, 2022.

Born at Ravenna ON, son of Silas Wagg and Florence (nee Glover). He married Joan Foreman, the love of his life, in 1951, who survives him. Ovas is also survived by children Candace Manchee, Stephanie Patty, Michael Wagg and Patricia Wagg, as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Finished grade VIII in Nottawa, ON, Grade XIII in Collingwood and graduated from Queen's University, Kingston. Degrees Medical Doctor and Master of Surgery. In due time FRCS (C).

While at Queen's Ovas joined the COTC and remained in various Reserve Army units until he became Commanding Officer of the Calgary Highlanders 1962-67. After a few years during which time he was the Honorary Lt. Col. of the Calgary Highlanders and President of the Canadian Infantry Association. He became Commander, South Alberta Militia District and Militia Area Prairies as Brigadier General.

While in Calgary Ovas became a Divisional Surgeon of the St. John Ambulance and eventually became Provincial President and a member of the Privy Council. Ovas was a member of the Order of St. John and eventually a Knight of Justice.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Cemetery on Saturday August 13, 2022 at 1 p.m.
