Obituary

Pearl Veronica Findlay
April 06th, 1937 - May 09th, 2020

Pearl Veronica Findlay passed away peacefully at home on Saturday May 9th, 2020 in her 83rd year, surrounded by her loving family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter: Pearl; sons: Jim (Sonja), Rob and Andrew (Ria); grandchildren: Karla (Jay), Candice (Adam), Alex (Lindsay), Jimmy (Lily), David, Rebecca, Rachel, Marica and Drew; great grandchildren: Bronson, Nora, Marin and Hazel; sister: Gloria (John); brother: Ernie. She will be dearly missed by her large extended family in Scotland and friends within the community.

Pearl is predeceased by her loving husband, James; parents, Robert and Elvira; sister, Lillian and brother, Freddie.

In 1963, Pearl, her late husband James and their two children moved to Canada from Glasgow, Scotland. Once settled in Collingwood, two more sons were born. She was a proud member of the Catholic Women's League and devoted numerous years of her life volunteering for many charities within St. Mary's Church, including the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

Family was everything to Pearl. She lived a full and rich life alongside her loving husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She held strong to her faith and was the heart of her family; a true matriarch. Pearl, better known as "Granny," will always be remembered for her patience, kindness and unconditional love. Her legendary Sunday morning breakfast was a special Scottish family tradition, which ensured weekly family gatherings.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Society of St Vincent de Paul Collingwood Food Bank.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Saint Elizabeth Health Care and Collingwood General Marine Hospital for their care and compassion.

Wishing you all, her family our deepest sympathy on the death of your beloved Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma! Pearl was a beautiful, gentle and kind person. She welcomed me so warmly as a new member of St. Vimcent de Paul and always reserved a seat for me every meeting beside her. This very welcoming gesture truly touched me. With her gentle Scottish brogue she always had time to ask about our travels and family. She proudly talked about her family and her treasured Sunday get togethers. Pearl was my partner for a few months before the group organized everyone for the mid break and treats. She would always prepare coffee, tea and water and always set the table so well.I would always have the treats and she made sure there was always left over from the CWL’s meeting the day before! She was a dedicated CWLmember and I told her I can’t join and instead gave her donations for their bazaar. I got to deliver the items to her house and she always invited me to go inside. At one point she said there was no longer room and we had to take it to the CWL storage at the church. I picked her up from her house , dropped the items and I told her I will treat her for coffee at Starbucks! It was delight as she has never been there and told me she only went to Tim Hortons. We really connected and she told me about her big loving family and happily told me that entertainment she relished and enjoyed, her weekly Casino trip with the locals to Orillia. Pearl lived her life to the fullest dedicating her time to her family and the Church. She had a strong faith and was so committed to volunteering, She was a role model for all of us for her dedication, loving and gentle ways, simplicity, generosity and kindness! She gave my husband a beautiful souvenir that says “‘Tis a Blessing to be Irish”, that touched him for her very generosity and thoughtfulness . We love you Pearl! May your loving memories live in our hearts forever ❤️ Cora and Adrian
