Obituary for Phyllis Scharf

Phyllis Gwendolyn Scharf

It is with great sadness we announce our Mother’s passing at the Campbell House Hospice on Wednesday February 23rd in her 95th year. Phyllis was the Mother of Terry (Arleen), Sharon (Jim) and Linda (Todd), a proud Grandma to Adam (Stacy), Jamie, Jarred (Kerri) and Zach (Kathleen) and a Great Grandma to Kelley and Rowan.

Phyllis was born in Ottawa in 1926 and raised on a dairy farm along the Ottawa River with seven siblings. Towards the end of WWII, Phyllis worked for the RCMP. She lived in Sarnia for her working years as a typographer. Phyllis always enjoyed the open spaces of country life, so at sixty years old, she bought a 100-acre farm with her partner and lived there until she was ninety. Phyllis loved the opportunities the farm provided her, like raising chickens and geese, growing a large vegetable garden, preserving tomatoes, picking asparagus and fresh corn, freezing homemade soups, etc. She liked to walk through the back fields with Kelly, her black lab in the summer and watch her crops grow. Mom was an outstanding cook, offering hearty meals to her family and friends. Her days were busy, but she still found time for square dancing.
In 2016, Phyllis moved to Collingwood and lived at Sunset Suites until June 2021 and then spent her final months at Bay Haven Retirement Home.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and the Campbell House Hospice for their care and support during her last days.

Cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held.
