Obituary for Mark Collins

Mark Collins, a beloved individual whose light touched the lives of many, has passed away, leaving behind a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. He fought a valiant battle against cancer, but on May 7th, 2023, he succumbed to the relentless disease. While his departure brings immeasurable sorrow, we choose to remember Mark for the extraordinary person he was—a cherished husband, loving father, proud Poppa and devoted son, brother and uncle.

Born on February 22nd, 1960 in Toronto, Mark possessed warmth and compassion and an innate sense of adventure that drew people to him. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, embodying the essence of a loving father. His daughters Kelsey (Sheldon) Hancock, Jessica (Fraser) Gibson and Kadie (Sam) McNichol were the center of his universe, and he showered them with boundless love, guidance and encouragement. Mark's presence in their lives will forever be treasured, as he leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration that will guide them in their future journeys.

Predeceased by his parents Orrie Ralph Collins and Mary Lorraine Collins (Nee Wright), Mark held a deep respect and admiration for his parents. Their unwavering support and the values they instilled in him helped to shape him into the remarkable individual he became. Mark's love and dedication to his parents were evident in the special bond they shared.

In 1974, Mark found his soulmate in Kelly Ann Collins (Nee Third) and their love story became one of legends. Their union was built on a foundation of trust, mutual respect and steadfast commitment. Mark's love for Kelly knew no bounds and they created a lifetime of cherished memories together. Through the highs and lows, they stood side by side, attestation to the power of love and partnership. The loss of Mark leaves a void in Kelly's heart that can never be filled, but the love they shared will continue to provide cherished memories and solace during this difficult time.

One of Mark's greatest joys in life was being a Poppa to his grandchildren, Hudson, Hendrix, Madelyn, Scotland, Isla and Elle. He cherished every moment spent with them, showering them with love, laughter and wisdom. From playing games to sharing stories, their presence in Mark’s life was a source of boundless joy. His love and guidance will forever be ingrained in their hearts, shaping their futures, and reminding them of the incredible bond they shared.

Beyond his roles as a family man, Mark was an accomplished Operations Manager for Alpine Ski Club for 30 years. His dedication, expertise and commitment to excellence made a significant impact in his time at Alpine. He was highly respected by his colleagues both at Alpine and in the industry and admired for his work ethic and integrity. Mark's contributions will leave an enduring mark, inspiring future generations to strive for greatness.

Mark's compassionate nature extended beyond his family and work. He touched the lives of friends and acquaintances alike, always ready with a listening ear, warm smile, cheeky comment, and a helping hand. His kindness and generosity left an indelible impression on everyone he encountered and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Mark Collins will forever be remembered as a beacon of love, strength and compassion. His legacy lives on through his wife, children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he enriched. While we mourn this great loss, let us also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the profound impact he had on the world around him.

In honoring Mark's memory, let us strive to embody the qualities he exemplified—a loving heart, spirit of kindness and deep devotion to those he loved. May his soul find eternal peace, knowing that he was deeply loved and that his memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday July 13, 2023 from 1-4 p.m. at Alpine Ski Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital Cancer Centre.
