Obituary for Ruth Daniels

DANIELS Ruth Elaine (nee Ditson)
Aug. 22.1937 to Jan. 6, 2023

It is with sadness that we announce the death of dearly loved Ruth Elaine Daniels, nee Ditson, on Friday January 6, 2023 at Hospice Georgian Triangle Campbell House surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth is pre-deceased by her parents John and Doris Ditson (Herrington), her husband George E. Daniels, and their son G. Andrew Daniels. She leaves behind her two beloved sons Timothy “Tiff” (Leah) and Christopher (Jennifer) and grandchildren Bennett and Darbien, and her sister Ann Raymer and nephew David (Arlene) and niece Heather.

Ruth was born and raised in Collingwood, ON and she also lived in Montreal, Orillia, and Toronto, returning to Collingwood in the mid-90’s and to her many lifelong friends. She was proud of her family’s contribution to the history in Collingwood and the family’s decades long business, the Ditson Bros. Bakery.

Ruth was an avid reader and experienced the world through thousands of writers over the years. When she wasn’t reading about people, communities, history and culture, she was experiencing it travelling with her dearest friends and family throughout Canada, the USA, Caribbean and Europe.

Ruth was a schoolteacher for many years, and she especially loved to teach grade 3 students. She was an active member in the Collingwood community through Lifelong Learning, Probus, and book and movie clubs. She was active at All Saints Anglican Church in Collingwood, and her volunteerism with the church and her faith were important to her.

She gave her children and grandchildren the gifts of love and laughter and taught how to be compassionate to others. Family gatherings will always be remembered with fondness, especially those spent at the family cottage on Lake of Bays and during the winters skiing at Devil’s Glen Country Club.

Ruth was artistic, creative, and humble and leaves a legacy of compassion, honesty, kindness, goodness, and faith. Most importantly, Ruth was always a calming guiding spirit, devoted wife, loving and nurturing mother and loyal friend. We will love her forever.

Family and friends will be received for visitation on Monday January 9, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood Chapel. Funeral service will be held Tuesday January 10, 2023 at 1 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church. The service will be available by livestream Daniels Service. In lieu of flowers or gifts please donate to Hospice Georgian Triangle Campbell House.
