Obituary for Thomas McCarthy

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Thomas Gerrard McCarthy on January 19th, 2023, at the young age of 58, due to cardiac arrest. Tom was the fourth born son to Charles (deceased) and Helen McCarthy (Caffery). He is survived by his mother Helen, his three elder brothers, Frank, Mike (Erica), Dan (Julia), his younger sister Mary Ann (Mark), nephews Brian, Barrett, Austin, Max and nieces Carly, Taylor, and Trista.

Tom earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Toronto and followed in his father’s footsteps in working with the London Life Insurance company. He went on to spend time in the wine, beer & spirits business, and most recently worked in the golf industry which was a true passion for him.

Thomas, Lance, Tom, Lang - he had many nicknames. He loved sports and movies. He was a natural athlete, playing lacrosse, hockey, and golf avidly. By default, being the youngest son, Tom always found himself in the goalie net where he excelled. He was instrumental in the many wins of The Father and Three Sons golf tournament with his father and brothers. Thomas knew every sport stat that existed, past and present. He loved humour and could recite the lines from any movie he ever watched - his favourite was Arthur. Our parents called him into their living room many times to entertain their guests. Thomas will be very sadly missed.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 31st, at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 63 Elgin Street, Collingwood, Ontario. The service will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who are able, donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, Collingwood Chapter https://ssvpcollingwood.ca/donors
