Obituary for Thomas Richardson

Thomas Edward Richardson
July 9th, 1940 - January 22nd, 2021

Suddenly, on January 22nd, our Tom passed away, leaving his family heartbroken - his beloved wife and best friend, Lynda, of 56 years, his loving children, Kelly, Robin and Bryan, son-in-law Colin Grant, and daughter-in-law, Kathryn, his cherished grandchildren, Riley, Thomas and Theo, his sister, Kathy Ko and husband Terry, uncle to Ted, and brother Ed and uncle to Jane, Mary and Martha - Tom was predeceased by his parents and sisters Jane and Mary, and brother, John.

Tom was born in Toronto and when he was 12, his family moved permanently up to their farm in Caledon. He became involved with horses and competed in jumping competitions at the local county fairs and eventually at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. He had a love for animals and always was seen with a dog or two at his side!

Tom was a student at Ridley College in St. Catharines, for 8 years and became an active alumnus, serving on the school's board for over 10 years. He attended the University of Waterloo and through the co-op engineering program, became interested in the construction industry. In 1967 he became a co-founder and owner of Sound Solutions, an active company to this day, and where he was still working part-time, until his untimely death.

In 1973, Tom bought "The Bird House" at the base of Scenic Caves Road, and the fun in Collingwood began. The family joined the Toronto Ski Club and soon became keen skiers, and made wonderful lifelong friends. The costume themed parties started and Tom ended up with one of the best hat collections adorning the walls of the chalet! He loved his friends and the feelings were mutual - he volunteered his time and effort to many causes throughout his life, but what Tom loved most was his family - He was "Dampa" to his 3 grandchildren, and became very involved and interested in their lives - his memory will live forever with them.

Tom loved boating and fell in love with Georgian Bay. He ended up buying an island property with sister Kathy, near Honey Harbour and another fun filled 15 summers were spent with family and friends, new and old.

As semi-retirement was looming, in 2005 Tom purchased a home in Piper's Landing, a small golf community in Palm City, Florida. At the time there were 2 other Canadian families in residence. Tom became known as the Canadian Pied Piper of Piper's , and there are now over 40 Canadian owners - his enthusiasm was overwhelming and many of his friends caught the bug when visiting him and ended up buying - he will be sadly missed by so many - he brought sunshine into all our lives - his laughter was infectious -

Special thanks to the staff of the Emergency Department at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, and especially to Doctor Richard Cornell.

Due to Covid-19, a celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
