Obituary for Vesma Baltgailis

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved, life long friend, Vesma Baltgailis. Vesma is predeceased by her father Eriks Baltgailis, and her mother Jada Baltgailis. She leaves behind her son Shayne Jackson and her grandchildren Riley and Kyle Jackson, her brother Bo Baltgailis and his son Zakk Baltgailis and his wife Tori, and their children, Raven, Faith and Samuel, and Bo’s daughter, Jessica Crawford and her husband Paul and their children Piper, Emily and Lincoln.

Vesma will be well remembered for her amazing chess career. From the late 1970s to the early 1990s Vesma was one of Canada’s leading chess players. She played for Canada in the Women’s Chess Olympiads and was an international Chess Master. This career would allow Vesma to travel around the globe, where she enjoyed meeting new people and exploring new places.

Vesma was also a very talented artist and an accomplished writer, just to name a few of her many gifts. With so many talents and interests, Vesma’s first love was her strong Christian faith, which was the guiding light of her life. She always gave the glory to God for all of His generous gifts and blessings and for sustaining her through good times and bad.

Vesma had a great sense of humour which we enjoyed so much over the many years. We always stayed connected even when we were far apart. We will all miss her very much.

There will be a funeral service at Fawcett Funeral Home on Monday, December 13th, 2021 at 3pm EST. The funeral will also be livestreamed for all those who wish to attend virtually. (see link under PHOTOS & VIDEOS tab)
