Obituary for Vivian Paterson
Vivian Helene Paterson (nee Lamothe)
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our beloved matriarch. Vivian passed away in her 75th year at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital on Friday, November 8th, 2019. Married for 54 years to husband William “Bill” Paterson. Bill will greatly miss their games of Bridge and catching up on the day’s events over dinner. “The love of my life, my darling wife”.
Vivian was born in White River, Ontario on December 16th, 1944 to the late Arthur and Alice Lamothe. Vivian was one of two siblings and will be missed dearly by her surviving sister Anne-Marie “Marie” Mikus. Whether it was playing Texas Horseshoes, Crazy Eights, or Yahtzee, both sisters could be heard giggling for hours.
Mom will be held in the hearts of her three children; Kimberly Rutherford (Geoff Rutherford), Cynthia Paterson (Jay Frain) and Ian Paterson (Naomi Paterson). Mom was the glue that kept us together and went out of her way to make every visit special. Her love for us was immeasurable and will live with us forever.
Gramma was, literally, the best Gramma, ever! With seven grandchildren between the ages of 10 and 29, Gramma spent almost 30 years loving and spoiling her most precious family members. Gramma made many batches of homemade play-doh and she could play Lego, baseball, water fights, and many other childhood games for hours. She loved every minute of it. Surviving grandchildren include Gibby Paterson (29), Emma Paterson (26), Evan Rutherford (25), Stella Paterson (21), Sean Rutherford (21), Justin Rutherford (19), Liam Paterson (10). All have many beautiful memories of growing up with Gramma that they will forever cherish as they continue their life journeys.
Whether it was a Holiday meal, a family reunion, or just a quick visit, Vivian always made sure that everyone felt loved. Her love extended beyond the immediate family to her eight nieces and nephews who will fondly remember the times they shared with Auntie Viv.
Vivian’s laughter was so infectious, her bubbly personality and energetic nature left everyone with a smile. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. We will forever be grateful to have shared her life.
