Obituary for William "Bill" Wheatstone

William (Bill) Wheatstone

Bill passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Richmond Hill in his 96th year on Monday August 15 2022.
He was predeceased by his wife Natalie (nee Saltsman) in 2015.
He is survived by his children Michael (Peggy) Toronto, Geoff (Leanne), Kenora and Meg (Simon) New Zealand, and his 6 grandchildren Miranda, Alexis, Meghan, Liam, Mathew and Caitlinn.

Bill met his wife on a beach while vacationing in the south of France. Three days later they were engaged. After marrying they lived in England for a year before looking to immigrate. The choices were Canada or Australia. Canada won and they arrived in 1954.

Bill first worked in the Toronto office of the J Walter Thompson advertising agency, being an account rep for companies such as Ford, Holiday Inn, and Sperry New Holland. In 1976 he changed jobs to become the first manager of the Apple Marketing Commission of Ontario, a job he thoroughly loved until his retirement in 1992.

A keen fly fisherman, Bill and Natalie retired to Collingwood with good access to trout filled rivers. He and Natalie were keen members of the community enjoying Probus, all Saints Anglican church and time spent with many friends.
He remained there until 2018 when, after Natalie’s passing and suffering declining health, he moved to Sunrise of Richmond Hill.
Wherever he went he was remembered for his sense of humour and his smile.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

A memorial service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church Collingwood at 11 a.m. on Tuesday June 6, 2023.
