Obituary for Patricia Ballantyne

Patricia Ballantyne
Marjorie Patricia Ballantyne

Patricia Ballantyne passed away peacefully and with grace at her home in Collingwood on June 12, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, James F. Ballantyne and sisters Burleigh Leishman, Joan Redfern and cousin Adam Zimmerman, she is survived by her loving sister Dossé Matthews.

Adored for her strength and guidance by her seven children and their spouses Michael, Kelly (Joe Killoran), Charles (Shirley), James (Mary Anne), Tom, Anna (Peter Ilnyckyj), Gretchen (Max Staines), her 13 grandchildren, Mac (Heather), Charley, Michelle, Brittani, Kati, Sarah. James, Carly, Ali, Jacquie, Maddie, Annie, Chloe and her great grandson Mason Killoran, Pat’s family was the most important part of her life.

Pat cherished her relationships with her many nieces and nephews showing a genuine interest in their lives and accomplishments. An artistic eye to everything she touched from the art she collected, the gardens she tended, the clothes she wore to the rooms she decorated, Pat was never at a loss for adding her inimitable style to her always-serene surroundings.

Her childhood summers spent at her grandparent’s cottage in Go Home Bay first influenced her love of nature and the outdoors, a passion she lovingly passed on to her children and grandchildren. Throughout the years, whether at her farm in Thorndale, the marshes of Hilton Head, or her backyard oasis in London, Pat always had her binoculars and bird books close at hand, ready to identify the latest visitor.

As a young woman Pat started her career as a graphic artist at Manifolding-stationery in Toronto then, after having her children, devoted her life to her husband and family and to extensive volunteer work; Maycourt Club of London, Director at the London YM-YWCA, President of the Volunteer Committee at the London Art Gallery. As a lifelong learner, Pat was a very proud septuagenarian graduate of the University of Guelph Master Gardener Program.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the compassionate care of Chartwell staff and the Right At Home caregivers, Joanne, Sylvia, Sarah, Donna and Michelle who tenderly cared for our mother in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. As were her wishes, a private family service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.
