David and I first met in the library of the university of Manitoba, probably sometime in the fall of 1963. We went on to become true friends, particularly during our university days, dinners at our respective hovels, the married students club, all very memorable times for Eugenia and me.
In the late 60’s early 70s, we spent most of the summer long weekends at George and Myrt’s farm near Minden. We came to think of ourselves as part of their extended family. It was a great place. David’s parents were great people, gracious hosts, and we have many happy memories of those weekends.
One winter visit to Ottawa, David took me for my first downhill skiing experience. A total disaster -- took me several years to recover. Some years later, after we had learned to ski, we were on a family week at Tremblant; we’re sitting outside in the sun having lunch and I hear this familiar voice, turn around, and there is David and Judy -- a great surprise for us, and the first time we met Judy.
Because we were both busy trying to make our way in the world, we lost touch for a few years. then out of the blue, David phoned, and we picked up where we had left off, and have remained in contact over the years…usually by an email or phone call every few months.
A visit that stands out for us is our first time in Collingwood. This visit was memorable, not only for the kind Conway hospitality, but also because it was the Elvis festival weekend.
David and Judy attended a celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary in Ottawa a few years ago, and this past September we again were able to visit them in Collingwood. I am so glad we did.
To Judy and family, Eugenia and I offer our sincerest condolences. Rest in peace bud, we will really miss you
