Sydney John Chamberlain December 30, 1930 – November 14, 2020

December 30, 1930 – November 14, 2020. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Sydney Chamberlain, peacefully on November 14, 2020 at the age of 89. Syd was born December 30, 1930 in Manchester, England. Loving husband to his beloved wife, Doreen. Loving father to his two children, Carol and Andrew (Gail) and his granddaughter, Sarah (David). He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Syd and Doreen were married in Manchester, England in 1953. In 1954, they emigrated from England to Canada, where Syd began his career working at AVRO Aircraft on the AVRO Arrow as an aircraft design engineer. Throughout his career, he worked for Canadair in Montreal, Boeing in Seattle, and DeHavilland / Bombardier in Toronto, where he happily spent the majority of his career until his retirement in 1997.

Syd and Doreen retired to Blue Mountain, where he continued to pursue his passions. He could often be seen skiing the slopes, which he did into his early 80s. He loved being outdoors, being by his pool, and working in his garden. He also enjoyed working on home-projects as a skilled and knowledgeable tradesman. When he wasn’t at home, he was travelling to countries all over the world, taking in the history and culture. Among his favorite places to travel was Barbados, where he and his family made many happy memories. He valued the many close friendships which he formed through his career, sports and other pastimes like playing Bridge and dancing. Many of these friendships spanned a lifetime. He will be remembered as a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest.

There will be a funeral service at All Saints’ Anglican Church in Collingwood on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. If you wish to attend the funeral service in person please use the RSVP button or contact Fawcett Funeral Home. Dear Doreen, Carol, Andrew, Sarah and family,
This was very sad news indeed and I wish to extend condolences from myself, Tim and my mother. I have so many wonderful memories of our family spending time with yours either it be camping, dinner parties or around the pool. I have particularly fond memories of Uncle Syd speaking at my wedding in 1984 and my mother speaks often of you both. He was a wonderful person and will be dearly missed. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. Love Sandra
